Bastrop ISD Selects Community Partner of the Year

(Bastrop) – Bastrop ISD has selected We Believe in BISD as its community partner of the year. An award will be presented by the Board of Trustees on May 16, 2017 during the board meeting to Jolene Jaehne, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, and Becki Womble, President of the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce.

For the last several years, Jaehne has spearheaded the Education Committee and the We Believe in BISD organization. This coming year, the Chamber will seek new leadership for We Believe as Jaehne assumes the position of Chairperson for the Executive Board. A heart for education and a passion for building partnerships will be foundational to the committee’s continued success.

“I believe in the educators and staff of Bastrop ISD, and that’s why I’ve devoted my time and passion as the chair of this committee,” said Jaehne. “It’s one thing to want more for this community, but it’s another to get out there, roll up your sleeves, serve, and show real appreciation and support. And that’s what We Believe partners have done. I’m honored to have a role in being the Community Partner of the Year, and I look forward to seeing years of strong relationships with BISD and the business community.”

The Bastrop Chamber of Commerce boasts of a membership of about 750 businesses, organizations, and individuals. Of those members, more than 30 are We Believe in BISD friends who partner with a campus or a department to serve as a support network for teachers and administrators. We Believe comes to each campus and department they sponsor in a celebration of food and beverages for all the staff, and they deliver a generous and heartwarming message of thanks. In addition, this year We Believe in BISD members donated extra funds to fulfill wish list items campuses indicated they wanted or needed in support of teacher and staff appreciation.

“The We Believe initiative is unique because passionate citizens and our engaged business community are actively advocating and supporting the staff and students of Bastrop ISD,” said Womble. “Because of partner involvement, we can help tell the stories of the amazing things happening within our school district. It’s our responsibility because it’s the schools and teachers who are developing our future workforce, and that’s vital to the local economy.”

In addition to the refreshments, wish list fulfillment, and general appreciation, We Believe partners often attend campus and school events, wear We Believe gear, and display signage at their businesses to indicate their strong support of local public schools.

“We Believe is a very special partnership that is original to Bastrop but now is being replicated statewide,” said Steve Murray, Superintendent of Schools. “It has created a structure that allows our businesspeople to build relationships inside the schools with principals and teachers. They consistently send the message to our teachers and staff that they are supported and that what they do every day matters to the success of the district and the community as a whole.”
