(Bastrop) – Bastrop ISD has named Laila Olivarez Associate Superintendent of Academics. She is set to begin her duties in early October.

“I am thrilled to return to Bastrop ISD. My years as principal there are some of my most cherished professional experiences,” said Olivarez. “I look forward to being part of Bastrop’s district-wide commitment to student learning and to supporting the work of our talented and dedicated principals and teachers.”

A graduate of St. Edward’s University and Texas State University, Olivarez has 18 years of experience in public education. She comes to Bastrop from Elgin ISD where she was the Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Student Improvement, overseeing and implementing K-12 instruction and curriculum. Prior to that, she was an assistant principal and principal in both Del Valle ISD and Bastrop ISD.

“We welcome Laila back to Bastrop ISD as our new Associate Superintendent of Academics. She comes our way with a wealth of knowledge about curriculum and instruction,” said Superintendent Steve Murray. “She served Bastrop ISD in the past as an outstanding campus principal of Lost Pines Elementary and Cedar Creek High School, and we are excited that she has chosen to return to BISD in the service of our staff and students.”

Olivarez is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in educational administration at The University of Texas. She is a Milken Award recipient as well as a former Raise Your Hand Texas Summer Institute participant. She has been responsible for teacher and principal professional development, instructional programming, and student academic performance initiatives.
