FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                             January 24, 2020
Bastrop Chamber of Commerce Participates in Leap of Kindness Day
Bastrop, Texas – The Bastrop Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce their participation in Leap of Kindness Day on February 29, 2020. This was originally started in 2016 by the Saratogo County Chamber of Commerce.
“The idea is simple, do something kind for someone else on February 29.” said Becki Womble, Bastrop Chamber President and CEO. “We get an extra day only once every four-years, in 2020 it is a Saturday, and you couldn’t find a better way to spend it. Bastrop is already a great place to live, play and work so let’s take it to another level during this Leap Year.”
The idea is to get as many people in our community as possible to use the extra day we all get in a Leap Year to do something kind for someone else. Beyond Saratoga County, there were more than 50 chambers in 30 states who joined the Leap of Kindness Day celebration.  They had thousands of people take part in the celebration of kindness. Some cooked breakfast or delivered lunch for first responders. Others delivered flowers or socks to residents in local retirement homes. Local employers collected clothes, food and money for a wide range of local charities. Others acted individually sending a thank you card to someone who meant a lot to them.
Mike Buck, B.E.S.T. Leadership facilitator said, “Our Leadership Class has chosen Leap of Kindness Day as their service project for the 2019-2020 year. Class members are organizing activities all over Bastrop County that you can get involved with on February 29, 2020. Some are organizing service projects in conjunction with employers at local non-profits or schools and others are doing random acts of kindness for people in need.”
As we inch closer to Leap of Kindness Day 2020, the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce's goal is to see that even more individuals and employers come together to do something kind for someone else using the extra day they will get on February 29, 2020. What will you do with an extra day in 2020?
