Bastrop, Texas, On Monday, October 16th TxDOT Contractor Hunter Industries will set the bridge beams for both the eastbound and westbound overpass structures on State Highway 71 and State Highway 95 as construction moves forward on the overpass project. “The project is progressing very well and we have hit a major milestone in our path to completion,” said William Semora, Jr. Assistant Area Engineer with TxDOT.

TxDOT will be storing the large concrete beams on the east-bound SH 71 shoulders between the SH 304 and Hasler overpasses and the westbound SH 71 shoulders between the SH 95 and Tahitian Drive overpasses beginning this Sunday, October 15th. “The City of Bastrop greatly appreciates the community’s patience during the construction period of this project,” said City Engineer Wesley Brandon.

Following the Bastrop High School Homecoming parade, at approximately 8 p.m. on Monday, October 16th State Highway 95, and Jackson Street at State Highway 71 will be closed throughout the night with the crossover reopening by 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. Operations will continue during the day on Tuesday but will not affect State Highway 95 traffic. The inside lane of State High 71 westbound will be closed while the work continues. Motorists will notice additional police presence, construction materials and message boards over the next few days.

Motorists should be prepared to expect delays during this time frame. “Thankfully this means we are one step closer to the completion of the overpass,” said Brandon.
