Annual Empty Bowl Project
Savor one of Bastrop’s most anticipated events: the 14th annual Bastrop County EMPTY BOWL Project on Saturday, Feb.24—from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—at the Bastrop Convention Center (1408 Chestnut St.). Tickets are $20 per person for your choice of a pottery soup bowl decorated by local school-age artist), all the delicious soup, stew or chili you want to sample, and family favorite cookies prepared by local bakers. Children 12 and under eat free. The event includes “fan favorite” voting and a silent auction of works by local artists. Tickets may be purchased on line now at http://bit.do/emptybowl2018 or at the door on Feb. 24. Bastrop’s Empty Bowl Project is a longstanding partnership of the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry, the Bastrop Independent School District, restaurants and caterers throughout Bastrop County as well as local artists, cookie makers and sponsoring businesses and individuals. In addition to showcasing the culinary talents of local restaurants and caterers, the event helps fund the Pantry’s “emergency food” program bridging the gap between the basic nutritional needs of many county residents—young, old, individuals, families—and their ability to address these needs on their own. Event proceeds, grants and donations also empower the Pantry’s efforts to inform, counsel and lift the thousands among us—one out of every seven Bastrop County residents—who are living in poverty or experiencing food emergency.
