SIGNAL — Showcasing Animation and Motion Media Creativity from Texas
Friday, March 13th, SIGNAL will be taking over the Thinkery to present an evening of art, music, presentations and screenings. SIGNAL shines a spotlight on great work produced in Texas and helps curate and foster fresh content and pieces from artists pushing into new areas of exploration.
SIGNAL 003 will be hosted at The Thinkery in Austin Texas on March 13th from 8pm - 11pm. Garage and on-street parking available.
MUSIC:
- DJ Rareboi: Joins us again after performing at our November event and will be providing a mix of Jazz Hop and Chillwave. He's a regular at Buzz Mill Shady in East Austin.
- Stretch Panic: Is a 3pc garage-rock, ghoul-pop, unicorn-twee, dork-wave band out of Austin that likes to dress like cartoons and sing about vampires. We are a complete ice cream swirl of weirdo fun and will haunt you silly.
SPEAKERS:
- Zachary Levi: Actor, filmmaker, and entrepreneur most recently starred in the movie Shazam and is fast becoming one of the Texas media scene's biggest boosters. He'll be making a major announcement that has huge implications for filmmaking in central Texas.
- Penelope Nederlander: Will be discussing her recent work on Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey. An Emmy Award nominated motion and VFX artist working in TV, film, commercial, and web. You might recognize her work on the title sequences for films such as Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2, Temple Grandin, Too Big to Fail, Pitch Perfect.
EXHIBITS:
- Brian Behm / No_System: SIGNAL co-founder and local motion design director Brian Behm is back with new pieces from his "No_System" augmented reality project and a collection of older work for people to interact with. Among the new pieces is "Umbrellas Up," with all proceeds donated to legal defense for Hong Kong protestors.
- Caegan Meager & Dom Davis of Psycho Jelly - Projection Artistry: We're going to be bringing the courtyard space to life with video projection. We can't wait for you to experience things brought to life through video.
- Skyler Moran and Jacob Stern - "anthro_Map": A mixed media piece of interactive video art. Communicating through a sculpture of projection mapped screens, the piece explores the relationship between human and digital bodies. The installation plays the two off of each other, tracking the interplay between them, and showcasing the result of the interaction.
- Chocolate Milk & Donuts - The Future Is Now: An interactive augmented reality power art installation showcasing three artists' vision of the future. In its resting state, a pedestal slowly rotates, spinning the selected art piece at the same rate. Using an iPad, a user can physically move around the pedestal to view the art piece from any angle, while the art pieces themselves will move, flex, float, flicker, light up, breath, and sway.
- Mod Tech Labs - "Fear of Heights" Experience: Users are immersed in a virtual world where they are in control through five increasingly more realistic levels as they face a fear of heights.
- Charles R Pearce - Television and the Public Interest Revisited: A reduced and concentrated version of the landmark speech once again feels like a fresh call to do more and to do better within our media. The film essay was produced with experimental visuals for the BroomX MKPlayer360."
