Bastrop Empty Bowl Project
Savor one of Bastrop’s most anticipated events: the 13th annual Bastrop County EMPTY BOWL Project on Saturday, Feb.25—from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—in the Bastrop High School Cafeteria (1614 Chambers St.). Tickets are $20 per person for all the soup and dessert you want to sample (and your choice of a pottery soup bowl by a local school-age artist); children 12 and under eat free. Enjoy great live entertainment—Max Butler and Dunn Deal--and take part in a silent auction of the works of local artists as well. Tickets may be purchased at the door or, in advance, at the Pantry (806 Fayette St, in central Bastrop) and, each Saturday leading up to the event, the 1832 Farmers Market (1302 Chestnut St, in Bastrop. Bastrop’s Empty Bowl Project is a longstanding partnership of the Pantry, the Bastrop Independent School District, restaurants and caterers throughout Bastrop County as well as local artists and businesses and members of Bastrop County Home and Community Clubs. Proceeds from the event help fund the Pantry’s “emergency food” program, bridging the gap between the basic nutritional needs of many county residents—young, old, individuals, families—and their ability to address these needs on their own. Event proceeds, grants and donations also empower the Pantry’s work inform, counsel, assist and lift the thousands among us—one out of every seven Bastrop County residents—living in poverty.
