Lost Pines Garden Club Meeting
There will be a Lost Pines Garden Club meeting at the Bastrop Public Library on Nov 10. Information on our club is at www.lostpinesgardenclub.org. The meeting starts at 6:30 pm with snacks and socialization, short club business meeting from 7:00 to approximately 7:20 and the program from then until 8:00 pm. The meeting is open to the public.
The program is “Establishing a large sustainable ranch in Bastrop County”. The program on will describe the challenges and benefits of establishing a sustainable 400 acre ranch. The primary ranch focus is on preserving an area for native Texas plant and wildlife to survive and flourish. This includes vegetation (selection and support of desirable, water efficient plants, control of invasive species), flood control, springs and ponds encouragement, and a plan (e.g., approach to minimize “urbanization”/subdivision) for long term operation of this ranch. An additional aspect is relevant Texas history from early 1800s to the present day and the impact history has made on the ranch.
The program will be by Sandra Schultz who is a Texas Master Naturalist and has an ongoing relationship with Texas Parks and Wildlife and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for guidance and direction with land management.
