BASTROP ISD SCHOOL BOARD NAMES DR. KRISTI LEE INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT
The Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Kristi Lee to serve as Interim Superintendent effective August 1.
The Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees has selected Dr. Kristi Lee to serve as Interim Superintendent effective August 1. The decision was made during the Board’s regular meeting on Tuesday, July 15, following the retirement of Superintendent Barry Edwards after 37 years in public education.
“We’re fortunate to have someone with Dr. Lee’s experience to lead the District during this time,” said Board President Ashley Mutschink. “As we begin a new school year, the Board has deep confidence in Dr. Lee’s leadership and dedication to our schools and community and know the district is in excellent hands.”
Lee has served as Bastrop ISD’s Deputy Superintendent since 2022. Her career spans more than 20 years in public education, which includes roles as communications director, high school principal, elementary principal, and teacher.
“It is a privilege to serve as Interim Superintendent, and I appreciate the Board’s trust and support,” said Lee. “This is a pivotal moment for Bastrop ISD, a time full of promise and opportunity. Together, we will confidently move Bastrop ISD forward, with students at the center of every decision.”
Lee holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science from Stephen F. Austin State University, as well as master’s and doctorate degrees in educational leadership and policy from Sam Houston State University. She has been actively involved in the community since 2016 through roles with the Bastrop Education Foundation, the YMCA Board of Managers, Visit Bastrop Board of Directors, and the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, where she currently serves as Chair of Governmental Affairs and liaison to the Executive Board.
In the coming months, the Board of Trustees and the District will keep the community informed about the superintendent search process and provide opportunities for engagement as the search moves forward.
